If You Want Better Answers, Ask Better Questions

Learn to ask the right questions to the right people at the right time.

One of the worst things we can do is to ask ourselves the wrong questions. Instead of asking yourself, “Why can’t I lose weight?” Ask yourself, “What can I do today to live a more healthy life?” Instead of asking yourself, “Why can’t I get more sales?” Ask yourself, “what can I do today to help someone reach their goals?”

Our minds don’t understand the negatives that we insert into our self questions and thoughts. If I say, “Don’t think about a monkey,” what do you think about? If I say, “Don’t think about a monkey wearing a red hat,” what picture is in your mind? Golfers in particular are aware of this phenomena. They stand on the tee box and think, “Don’t hit it into the water.” And where do they hit it?

Listen to your questions and your self talk and immediately catch yourself, and stop the negative questions. Ask yourself what you can do now to move you toward your goals. Ask how you can add discovery, adventure and enthusiasm into today’s activities. Ask yourself of all of the blessings in your life, which are you most grateful for today? Ask yourself how you can make someone smile today. Ask yourself better questions, and you’ll focus your mind and your activities and results will follow.
